Voices on the Plywood (Photography)

I was living in Little Italy in downtown Manhattan during the first wave of COVID. In my five years of living in the area, I had never seen the neighborhood so quiet. Every store and restaurant was boarded up with plywood. After the murder of George Floyd, artists transformed the storefront plywood into a canvas for voices to be heard. The entire city was covered with powerful pieces of artwork that spoke to our collective anger, hurt, and frustration. On my daily walks, I took pictures with my iPhone to preserve the art before it was taken down. I also uploaded the pictures online and asked people to send me plywood pictures from their cities. It was incredible seeing artists across the country using plywood as a medium to speak out. Below are a few pictures I took.
